Many years ago when your great grandparents were still inside the whom, all wolves lived together in peace and shared the whole world as if it were one big territory. There was no such thing as packs, and the only fights were for mates or for who got the last piece of meat from the carcass. Most wolves didn't even travel in groups unless it was with their mate or pups, and then eventually spread apart after the young were old enough to be on their own.
It wasn't until Fenris, a powerful and wicked wolf, put his long thought plan of dominance into action. He killed many that had resisted, but took with him the less-willed and head strong, forming the first pack in history; a pack that is now called Shinook.
The little that had survived Fenris' onslaught met and formed their own pack, knowing that there was strength in numbers. They began to plot Fenris' demise and called themselves Amithyst, after the wolf that soon became the leader of the brigade. Some left the pack to form a more neutral group, the ones that did not want to battle, even against the evil tyranny that was Shinook. There were many reasons why they refused to fight, but in the end they called themselves The Lakota, which meant peace.
Many eventful and horrible things happened, but in the end it was Fenris who fell. But still to this day no one knows why the wolves remained in the packs that they did. Perhaps it was because of the difference in opinion or the bonds they had made with one another. There is only one thing for certain, and that is that there is another evil in the land, far worse than the one before.
Many years later, it was indeed Fenris that took the life of so many, even though his body had long ago grew cold and limp. However, his legacy had still moved on even without his unrelenting supervision. His kin, his children of children, were the ones to rise; Ebony, Desmin, Kurl, and Blunt. Also, among them was another animal, one that was not part of their strong heritage. A small wolf named Kaan, an Ethiopian. He murdered, plotted, tricked, and destroyed many hopes that came before him despite his small size, though great power wasn't needed when you had a quick mind and others to back you up. However, he was just a puppet in their game of cat and mouse.
It wasn't until their friends had been murdered, until they had been beaten, until their very lives flashed before their eyes, that they finally stood up to the monsters. It was also the first death of one of the mercantile kin. Blunt was the first to die, being cocky and full of lust for death. Soon after the few remaining wolves banned together just like their ancestors had done before them.
Riuk stayed behind, her injuries to great, while Crag and Ruedi went off in search for Ebony. She had just recently killed Lobo, a coyote/wolf hybrid, and she had let out a loud, long call for them to track her with. However, this is exactly what she had wanted. To fall into her trap. They did however, like all stories, and the two heroes were locked in combat with Ebony and her followers. But it was once again, after Ebony has gracefully slipped away, that good triumphed over evil. Desmin was the one who fell, while Crag and Ruedi prevailed. Bloodied and beaten, they slowly made their way back to Amithyst, worried for Riuk's well being.
Their worry was justified, because there was in fact a Fenris wolf with Riuk. Kurl, the one with mixed blood. His eyes did not shine blue like his brothers and sister, but yellow, passed down from the genes of his mother. He stood over Riuk like a terrible shadow, yet he was not dangerous to her. He could have been if they had met at any other time, but not now.
He would join them.
The wolves rested for two days, regaining their faded strength for the upcoming battle. They, the ones that had been beaten and neglected had risen from the ashes, a phoenix in rebirth. They swept across the forest, finding Ebony alone in Shinook Territory. She had slowly gone insane in her loneliness, though that just made the task more difficult. Madness washes away rational thought and reason, thus, creating a terrible weapon.
They engaged in battle, and once Kurl arrived at the scene, Ebony grew desperate at his betrayal. The wolves were a furious ball of tooth and claw, but eventually, as all three of them got a fatal hold on her, the life slowly licked form her eyes like a dying flame. Her bones had locked in place, her muscles tensed, and even in death she stood strong against them. She was a motionless statue, resembling evil incarnate itself. Her eyes, though faded and flat, still burned with a wicked ember. They left her there, standing against the elements as rigor mortis took effect.
Ebony was dead.
Maybe you would have thought that, after much grief and torment, that the lives of these wolves would get smoother. Maybe they would have at least one year of peace before something else dug it's way out of hell. Unfortunately, these wolves aren't that lucky. Almost immediately after Ebony, the kin of Fenris, had been taken down, new problems arose. New lands were discovered on the borders of their territories where other packs had made their homes. However, this place was not peaceful either. It seemed that no wolf could go a day without looking behind their backs to make sure that there wasn't a deadly shadow.
The new Amithyst leader, Orchid, was the first to discover this evil pack. The Deviants, they called themselves, ruled by the horrible Sebian. They pushed out all others that did not share the same genetic code, and even killed some who wandered onto their lands. The ones that were attacked, plundered, and wronged, were known as The Betrayed. A fitting name due to the cruelty they were engulfed in.
For now the Betrayed live in the most barren and malnourished parts of Oakwood, where the Deviants do not mind if they linger. However, Sebian has grown cocky over the years. He feels even more powerful than before. He wishes for his lands to be completely cleansed, and he will do whatever it takes to completely drive out the Betrayed.

DEVIANT BEHAVIOR AND LORE The Deviants, in a nutshell, are stubborn, self centered, and angry individuals. They are the most feral a wolf can be and do not show restraint when proving how bestial they can be. Some can kill without a second thought, and some even take pleasure in the pain of others. The main reason for this is Sebian, the old leader of the Deviants. He is not only the alpha of them all, but he is also their father by blood. He made sure that their blood remained pure, and only allowed his own offspring to rule the forests of Oakwood with him.
He is also a very rugged and evil thing, and this is the main reasoning behind the rabid nature of his pack. Long, long ago, Sebian had been on his own like many other wolves, for the only known packs in the world were the Shinook, Lakota, and Amithyst. They three packs had been created by the malice of a certain tyrant individual; Fenris. That story is not far off the mark from what Sebian did once he finally heard of the one who had created Shinook.
However, Sebian was much more ruthless. Because of his hard upbringing as a pup with his parents, and then his sudden abandonment, he thought that only the strong were allowed to survive, and that the weak should be punished. So, slowly, Sebian gathered together a small group of wolves with the same look, body structure, stamina, and pelt color. All of the others that he came across, the ones that did not share his same look, were chased off. At first, he was not as cruel. At first, he was regarded as a hero. The one that had brought together wolves, the one who helped them thrive. The power and stature made him cocky and stubborn. He began to become even more violent with the outsiders. She pushed them from their homes in Oakwood and claimed it as his own. Even those that had showed him kindness were betrayed by him. He killed many that did not obey his commands.
Now, not many are allowed into the pack, even if they look like Sebian's new race; The Gray Wolf. He had finally made the perfect breed, he thought, and he did not want to take the chance of tainting the perfect blood. Some are lucky enough, if they look and act the right way, but most are now killed on the spot if they breach the Oakwood territory.
There is only one law for the Deviants, and that is Sebian's word.
BETRAYED BEHAVIOR AND LORE You have read of the Betrayed history above, so I think I would rather like to start with the behavior and description of them instead. There is not much more lore or history to speak of, except that the Betrayed found refuge in the ruins in the south, one of the places that the Deviants did not care for. They are a very religious race, and believe in the spirits of every living thing. When they die, their spirit either molds into nature, and becomes a part of everything that breaths. For the most important figures of their race, like noble leaders or wise shamans, their souls are said to wander up to the sky and become a bright, shining star.
The Dead Tree, a white, dried up tree that stands to the west of the Ruins, is one of their sacred places. They go there to be heard by the spirits of the past, or to even gain guidance. They are not able to hear from them like their shaman can, but every time a Betrayed visits the giant tree, their hopes are somewhat lifted. Another sacred place, much more important that the Dead Tree, is Alias Island. The outside of the land is protected by a ring of trees, and in the middle sits a still pool of clear water. Each wolf is only allowed to journey their once in their life, besides the shaman, and that is when they reach adulthood. This is the only place where others are able to communicate with the spirits. They drink the clear water in the pool, and then fall into a slumber. This, in their dreams, is the only time they speak to there ancestors. After they have returned from the island, they then have a noble spot in the pack, and are bound to the pack for eternity.
The Betrayed are a kind and gentle people. They will help almost anyone in need, even a stranger. The same doesn't go for the Deviants. They are a weak race, an mainly depend on their greatest hunters for their food.
There are many guidelines that the Betrayed follow by, to create order and sanity.
1. Treat others with respect. 2. Help who are in need. 3. Never kill without reason, and thank the spirits for every meal you eat. 4. Protect and prosper.
